Site of the former Illogan Highway United Methodist Free Church chapel

Now lost, this large chapel was found by taking Chapel Terrace from Chilli road, where it was on the left. It is now marked by a plaque on some garages

It is marked on maps from 1880 until the 1960s. Built as a United Methodist Free Church in 1851. Between 1907 and 1932 the chapel was a United Methodist Church. In 1932 became Chili Road Methodist Church. It became known as ‘Top Hat Church’. Chili chapel closed in 1973. The organist Thomas Merritt also played here and composed all his music on this organ which was  bought by St Andrews Church Four Lanes (see later) when the chapel was demolished.

You can see a picture of the former chapel on the following website – and you get to enjoy a walk too.
