Polesworth United Methodist Free Church chapel is included in the Inventory of Methodist buildings compiled at Methodist Union and published in 1940. We are told that the chapel was brick-built and seated 200 people on chairs. In addition to the main hall there was a School room and one other room.
The 1901 Ordnance Survey map labels a United Methodist Free Church chapel on the west side of Bridge Street, just north of the Anker Bridge – but it is hard to determine which of several small building the label relates to. However, by the 1939 map there is a single building of irregular shape towards the rear of the site. It is there in 2010 and 2024 but attached to new buildings.
On the 1882 Ordnance Survey map the chapel is marked as Wesleyan. Was that a mistake, or was the chapel transferred from one type of Methodist to another?
The church closed in 1985.
