Marsh Methodist New Connexion Chapel, Huddersfield, Yorkshire

Marsh MNC chapel-school was built of stone in 1874. It was situated at the junction of Westbourne Road (later New Hay Road) and Cleveland Road. The ground floor was designed to accommodate 300 children and same number in the room on the first floor “which will be also used as a chapel”. The cost was expected to be about £1800. By 1901 £1300 had been spent on the original construction and the subsequent enlargement of the chapel and a school. A further £300 had been spent on purchasing an organ. The chapel seated 260 and the school 300. Between 1913 and 1930 a substantial rear extension was added. This was reflected in 1940 it was reported that there was a chapel which seated 235 in pews, 2 school halls and 6 other rooms. The building was still a Methodist place of worship in 1961 but had closed by 1970.
