London chapels

how do we define London?

Map showing which county the different parts of London were in pre 1965

We assign all pages about an individual chapel to the county in which that chapel is to be found: or rather, which county it was in when built (or before 1932, as all the chapels on this site were built before Methodist Union).

Although there were some changes to county boundaries in 1974 most chapels are in the same local government county now as they always have been. London is more complicated. It only became a county in its own right in 1889, and was greatly expanded when Greater London Council was created in 1965.

The map should help you (and us) work out in which county any of our chapels now in Greater London started life.

The easiest way to find a page on a chapel is just to type its name into the search box.
