According to Rev. William Hill, in his submission to the Religious Census of 1851, the first Bible Christian chapel in Nutbourne was built in 1841. On 31st March 1851 Rev. Hill reported that the chapel had 90 sittings, with an afternoon congregation of 79 and an evening congregation of 71. He noted that a new chapel was being built, and James Thorne noted in his Jubilee Memorial that it actually opened on 29th May 1851.
After fifty years service, Ebenezer was replaced by the 1905 chapel, about 100 yards down the road
