Chichester, Hornet Bible Christian chapel

Jubilee was the second Bible Christian chapel in Chichester, and like its predecessor seems to have had a manse next door.

it was designed by George Draper (1796-1874) a prominent Chichester architect, and the attached account of the opening on 26th October, 1865, describes the building’s construction as well as giving a full account of the celebrations. As with many other Methodist chapels (and most of our house purchases, to be fair) the congregation began in serious debt.

Designed to seat about 200, it was reckoned in 1940 to seat 160.

The chapel provided over 100 years of service, but closed in 1968. As the photograph shows, it is now a restaurant. The house to the left of the chapel was the manse.
