Brighton was missioned by Bible Christians from Kent in April 1823. An existing chapel in Cavendish Street was purchased. In 1851 it was reported that this could seat 122. On March 31st 1851 the Rev. William Dennis reported the morning congregation as being 42 adults and 38 children, whilst 50 adults and 37 children attended in the afternoon, and 62 adults in the evening. By 1857 it was felt that a larger building was required, and the chapel in Bedford Street was purchased in 1857.

Following the congregation’s move to Bedford Street the building was used as a reading room, as can be seen on the 1877 Town plan.

A photograph of the building prior to demolition may be found here  on the Regency Society website.
