May Bank United Methodist chapel

Susan Turner nee Scott sent in these pictures of May Bank Methodist chapel on Moreton Parade, May Bank, Newcastle under Lyme. Susan wonders whether her ancestors were linked to the chapel  – Walter Scott  her  grandfather and Fredrick Scott, her great grandfather.

The chapel appears on Ordnance Survey maps from 1922, sited between Clifton Street and Cromer Street. It is labelled as UM – United Methodist. By the 1937/8 map it is labelled simply “Methodist church” – and a smaller Sunday school building has appeared on its southern side.

Street View shows a large residential development  on the site  in 2009 and 2014.

Older 1875/6 Ordnance Survey maps show a United Free Methodist chapel a little way away, on Chapel Street, the other side of Brampton Road.  Major Motors is on the site in 2020 with one old building on the exact spot.  Is that the remains of the former chapel?
