The first Bible Christian chapel described as being at Torquay was actually at Tor, or Torre as it is now known.  James Bennetts tells us that the chapel measured 25 feet by 22. He also tells us what it cost (£192) but not where it was (Mason’s Row, Tor, now Laburnum Road) or how many it could seat (170). He does tell us who preached, on which text and the effect of theirn preaching; and shares with us at length his views on Christian unity, and how interdenominational relationships are better around Tor Bay than some other places. At the end of the day the growth of the Kingdom is probably of greater interest to his audience than the buildings in which it was expected to occur. You can read these thoughts in the attached document.

We do not have a return from this chapel to the Religious Census of 1851.

This chapel was replaced in 1864 by another, not far away in Torhill Road, called Zion.
