The building which is now the Roman Catholic Church in the village of St Mawes on the beautiful Roseland peninsular of South Cornwall, started life as a Bible Christian chapel.
The foundation stone was laid on 6 May 1875 and the first service was held on Christmas Day that year.

According to the current church’s website, it was “the first church ever to have a woman minister, appointed in 1900”.
Following Methodist Union in 1932, the building was sold to the local Catholic community for £750. It was then restored and extended and a presbytery was added in 1946/7. Further renovations were carried out before an ecumenical service was held to celebrate the centenary of the building on 6 May 1975.
