Berry Brow Methodist New Connexion chapel (ii) was opened in November 1885 having been built on the site of an earlier chapel. It was built of stone and designed by Mr J H Burton of Ashton under Lyne to accommodate 600 persons. The cost was £2700. By 1901 £3800 had been spent on the original construction and the subsequent enlargement of the chapel, school and four houses. A further £205 had been spent on purchasing an organ. The chapel seated 450 and the school 350. In 1940 there was a chapel which seated 500 in pews, a school hall and 11 other rooms. The chapel was situated on a rather cramped site on the west side of Chapel Street. The chapel and the Sunday school stood side by side The latter had been converted for residential us (or rebuilt) by 1959. Although a return for the chapel was made in 1970 a map of 1969 shows that the building had been demolished leaving a vacant site
