In 1941 Long Eaton, High Street, Zion Methodist New Connexion Chapel seated 480 in pews. There were two schoolrooms and five other rooms. The chapel occupied a prominent position at the head of Main Street where it meets High Street.

The First World War memorial tablet from the chapel is now (2022) in Ilkeston Town Museum.  It reads:

“This memorial tablet was originally situated at Zion Church, Long Eaton and was erected in memory of the eighteen members of the Zion Church and Sunday school who gave their lives in the service of their country  during the First World War.

The memorial was unveiled on Sunday 19th December 1920  by Rev GG Hornby”

  • Long Eaton, Zion Methodist New Connexion Chapel, which seated 600, was built of brick in 1874 at a cost of £2055. The school which seated 450 was added in 1882. It cost £1018. In 1883 a new vestry, organ chamber and an organ costing £426 were installed in the chapel at a total cost of £800. In 1896 a new heating apparatus and electric lighting costing £200 were provided for the chapel and the school was improved by the addition of a new “anteroom etc” costing £100 and by roof strengthening. By 1901. when the chapel seated 512 and the school 460, £2800 had been spent on the original construction and the subsequent enlargement of the chapel and £1400 on the school. In 1904 £300 was spent on electric lighting in the school and strengthening its roof. The back of the church was remodelled for £100 In 1908. and installing electric light (£300). 19 1919 the minister’s house was bought for £750.
    The chapel closed in 1960 when it merged with Mount Tabor UMFC chapel and Central Wesleyan chapel to form Long Eaton Methodist Church.

  • Long Eaton Methodist New Connexion chapel, Derbyshire
    An organ chamber was built and seating installed on the ground floor in 1883.They were designed by A H Goodall of Nottingham, architect, the contractor was Youngman of Long Eaton, and the cost £233.
