South Street Chapel was built of brick in 1784. It is not known when it was taken over by one of the predecessors of the United Methodist Free Church which remained in occupation until their new chapel opened in 1845 on another site. . There after it was used as a Sunday school but by 1913 it was again being used as a chapel (by whom?).
A block plan of 1879 (05, when it was still a Sunday school, shows a long narrow building set well back from the highway behind a burial ground. There was another burial ground containing some buildings of indeterminate purpose behind the chapel. In 1958 the building was described as a ruin. It has been since been given a new lease of life as The Latch Kitchen. Inside diners can see the gallery which is supported by slender cast iron
columns and has right angle corners and a timber front.
