Dewsbury, New Road, Salem Methodist New Connexion Chapel was built between New Road and Malkroyd Lane in 1821. In 1851 it provided 50 free and 456 other sittings. The ground plan shows that the chapel was set back from the road and approached by a shallow flight of steps. Inside column bases indicate the presence of a gallery on three sides. Another flight of steps at the back of the chapel probably gave access to a Sunday school room below the chapel. Salem chapel was probably closed around 1870 when the chapel in Green Lane opened.
