Ambler Thorn Methodist New Connexion chapel, Yorkshire

Ambler Thorn Methodist New Connexion chapel was built of stone in 1860. It was situated at the top of a large plot on the east side of the Bradford to Halifax road just south of Shibden Head Lane. Most of the land was used as a burial ground. There was another burial ground on the north side of Shibden Head Lane and a Sunday school on the opposite side of the main road. It is unclear whether they were associated with the Methodist chapel. By 1901 £2700 had been spent on the original construction and the subsequent enlargement of the chapel, school, and manse. A further £200. had been spent on purchasing an organ. The chapel seated 350. This figure rose to 540 in 1940 but had fallen back to 400 by 1970. There was also a school which seated 225 in 1970 and two or three other rooms The chapel has since been closed and appears to have ben demolished…
