Rinsey chapel is graced by two returns to the 1851 Religious census. Francis Carter, the Steward thought the chapel had been built in 1834, whereas the minister Rev. J.W. Gilchrist thought that 1839 was the true date. Both agreed that there had been one afternoon service on Sunday March 30th, attended by 37 people.
In 1851 Rinsey was a Wesleyan Methodist Association chapel. This is confirmed by the fact that J.W. Gilchrist had been a WMA minister since 1835, and by the Registrar General’s list of places of public worship where it is noted as a UMFC chapel, formerly Wesleyan Association. It is listed as a UMFC place of worship in the Free Methodist Manual.
In 1940 the chapel could accommodate 120. It closed and was sold in the 1950s, as has now been converted into two holiday cottages.
