Before the Flowerpot  chapel opened, there was a previous United Methodist Free Church chapel in Fore Street.

The first chapel was built in 1838 and seated 840 people.

After the 1838 chapel was replaced with the Flower Pot Chapel in 1865, it was sold and became a glass and china warehouse. In 2021 the old chapel is Jim’s Cash and Carry
