Wincham United Methodist Free Church

Chapel Street, Wincham

Wincham United Methodist chapel

Cheshire Archives tell us that the former Methodist church in Chapel Street, Wincham, was  opened in 1846 by the Wesleyan Association, which became part of the United Methodist Free Churches in 1857, and of the United Methodist Church in 1907.

The chapel was rebuilt in 1875 and closed in 1956 due to subsidence damage, although services continued in temporary premises until 1974.

We’ve been contacted by a descendent of  Thomas Rayner who was connected to the church all his life and whose parents were the church leaders in its early history.  The family are looking for a photo of how it once looked as it’s such a prolific part of the family history.

If you have a picture, let us know!  It would be good to add one to this page too.
