Family

John was born on 12 May 1835 at Beafort, Torrington, Devon, to parents Francis and Elizabeth Dymont. His father was a labourer.

Before entering the Bible Christian ministry in 1857 he was employed as a groom on a farm (1851)

He married Marianna Pearse  (1841-1908) on 11th August 1863, in Exeter. She was the daughter of a Barnstaple ship owner. Her name is often transcribed in records as Mary Emma. They had ten children

  • George Pearse (1864-1939) Headmaster, local politician and prominent layman
  • Francis John (1865-1932) Bible Christian and United Methodist missionary in Yunnan
  • John S. (1871-1942)  Wholesale Draper’s trader (1911)
  • Elise Mary (1872- ) married Frederic Byrd
  • Sarah Stephens (1873-1944) married William Laurence Hutchings, an accountant
  • Robert (1875-1876)
  • William Arthur (1876-1950) Commercial traveller (1911)
  • (Samuel) James (1879-1927) School teacher
  • Fanny Louisa (1881-1882)
  • Albert Edward (1882-1967) Bible Christian, United Methodist, Methodist minister
