The the foundation stone for Box Hill United Methodist chapel was laid in 1868. It was built by the strand of Methodism known as United Methodist Free Church and around the window is still carved “United Methodist Free Church 1868”.
The site was donated by Robert Pictor and was large enough to include a chapel, school and vestries.
Box Hill chapel appears in the 1940 list of Methodist Buildings. It is described as stone built, with seating for 125 on pews. In addition to the main hall, there was a Sunday school room and one other room. It is recorded as having suffered war damage.
The chapel closed in November 1967.
