This was established by Wesleyan Reformers circa 1852 after seceding from the Wesleyans in Westgate Street. They built their own chapel on an adjacent plot, later joining the United Methodist Free Churches (Downham Market circuit).
In the small village of Shouldham Thorpe, Free Methodist activities (in the former Wesleyan chapel) were taking place from 1875, and may have been an offshoot of the Shouldham chapel.
It seems that the congregations in both Shouldham and Shouldham Thorpe disbanded at the same time (c1890). Neither are recorded in the lists of the Free Methodist Manual published in 1899.
The Shouldham chapel has long been demolished.
