Obituary from Minutes of the Methodist Conference
Born at Patricroft, Manchester, in 1893. He entered Ranmoor College in 1913, afterwards completing his theological training at Victoria College, Manchester. He volunteered for duty with the Forces during the First World War, serving in the ranks as a stretcher-bearer.
Elected to serve on the Lord Mayor’s Welfare Committee, he was, for his efficiency in this department, decorated with the M.B.E.
His post-war work in Leeds among the returned members of the Services was valuable in re-establishing contacts with the Home Church.
His last appointment was to the Jersey (Wesley Grove) Circuit, in the Channel Islands, where he applied himself with characteristic vigour to a new kind of work. In the short space of four months he had made many new friends and had ‘ inspired them to undertake aggressive work even where there was little to warrant ‘ much adventuring.
Then with dramatic suddenness, on 5th February 1950, he, ‘ finished his course ’, laid down his work, and entered into his reward. He went out ‘ fighting the good fight ‘ whilst to him the sun seemed still far above the western horizon.
