My great grandmother was born on Snow Street in the 1800’s before moving to London when she was 7. Her name was Barbara Fenwick.

Thank you for your comment Sheila. It is good to hear that our buildings continue to be used for the purposes for which they were built, even if not by Methodists. Rev. Donald Bridge was a hardworking and successful Baptist minister (as can be seen from the link) whose ministry started at the Eldon Mission.

Yes This was also known as Eldon Mission I went to this church along with my parents and sisters for many years starting in the late 1950s until 1969. There was a huge banner at the front the church painted on the wall prominently declaring that “God is love” in blue and gold. This was a patriarchal sect . There were no instruments used at the morning service called The Breaking of Bread. All Hymns were sung acapelo which was quite lovely as the harmony of the voices was so moving. It was an outreach church so the members gave freely of their time and financed. Their leader was paid by Free Will offerings and never had a salary. His name was Mr Leslie Harbottle. One day in the early 1960s a young man ( an evangelist) called Rev Donald Bridge was approached and became their full time Pastor. He was paid a salary and brought life and a new vitality to the congregation. He formed a Youth Group called the Covenanters . I was a part of that youth group but I left Newcastle when I went to college. I haven’t many photos but I’m happy to share what I have. I even have a picture of Mr Todf somewhere!

I went to Sunday school in the early fifties in snow street, it was called the Eldon mission, one of the teachers was called Mr Todd.
