New schools were built at Great Harwood UMFC chapel in 1884, A press notice described the proposed works:
“The buildings will be used for day and Sunday school purposes, to accommodate 1,000 scholars, and will consist of a large schoolroom with seven classrooms adjacent thereto, and an infant’s school for 150 infants. The plans have been prepared by Messrs Maxwell, Tuke, and Hurst, architects, Southport, and the works carried out under their supervision.”
