Cuthbert Road/Bensham Road UMFC chapel and schoolroom were built in 1887. They were designed by Councillor W H Dunn of Newcastle upon Tyne and built by John Ross of Marian Road, Gateshead. The school on the ground floor seated 300 children and the chapel above 250 persons. The cost was expected to be around £1000.
