Page, Frank Astrop (1872-1961)

Obituary from Minutes of the Methodist Conference

Born at Hull in 1872. He entered the Ministry of the United Methodist Free Churches in 1899, was accepted by the Annual Assembly for a “Home Immediate” appointment, and was sent to the London XI Circuit.

After three years of fruitful ministry he went to Limehouse, where he proved himself a true pastor of young and old alike. Thereafter he served in Callington, Exeter, Castleford, Kirkwhelpington, Elham, Framlingham, St Austell, Somerton, Hawarden, Hull and Stanley (Co. Durham).

He became a supernumary in 1937 and went to live in Teignmouth, where his help, especially during the war, was greatly valued. In 1948 he went to Canada, and there served two years with the Home Missions Department of the United Church of Canada at White River. On relinquishing this work, he settled in London, Ontario.

For the last two and a half years of his life he was in Parkwood Hospital, where he bore good witness for his Master and was a source of great help to all with whom he came in contact. He is remembered with thankfulness for his complete and unselfish devotion, and for his gentle and gracious humility. Throughout his ministry he maintained the spirit of the true evangelist. By both his teaching and his life he commended his Saviour to all who knew him. He died on 30 May 1961, in the sixty-second year of his ministry and the eighty-ninth of his age.

Family

F. Astrop Page was born in Sculcoates, Hull in early 1872 (he was baptised on 24th March) to Frank Astrop Page, a telegraph clerk, and his wife Ann Jane, a schoolteacher.

Before entering the ministry he was apprenticed as a turner (1891)

He married Annie Elizabeth Copp (1874-1954) during the 2nd quarter of 1912 in  Exeter Registration District. Annie was the daughter of a Bible Christian local preacher.

Astrop  died on 30th May 1961 in London, Ontario.
