Argall, Frederick Paul (1873-1949)

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference

Born at Truro in 1873. Entering the Ministry in 1896, for forty years he gave un stinted and efficient service in both northern and southern circuits.

He was a skilled photographer and a talented artist, which gifts were consecrated to his vocation as a Christian minister. He travelled widely, and his illustrated lectures on the lands he visited gave pleasure to many audiences.

He had a natural gift of oratory, and his sermons dealt with the major themes of the Christian faith. Diligent in the pastoral office, during his retirement at Bexleyheath, he was always ready to help in visitation, continuing this useful work almost to the day of his death.

He had reached the age of seventy-seven when, on 25th October 1949, he died at Bexleyheath, having served the Church and his generation fifty-four years as a Methodist minister.

Family

Frederick was born on 12th March 1873 in Truro, the son of Frederick and Mary Elizabeth Argall.

He married Florence Langdon (1872-1928) on 13th June 1901 in Truro. Their only child died young.

His second marriage was on 25th January 1933 in Birmingham to Mabelle Annie Turner (1885-1940). Following Mabelle’s death he married Venn Winifred Hands (1890-1965)on 13th July 1943 in Endon, Staffordshire

Frederick died on 25th October 1949 in Bexleyheath.
