This shows one of the first preaching places showing the humble beginnings showing a LANCASHIRE Weavers cottage turned into a Sunday School and eventually birthed a church in this charming Lancashire villiage Lowerfold United Methodist Free Church they worshiped in the Sunday School until the chapel was built. As a teenager i attended here for Youth Fellowship and often Sunday evening service it was then Lowerfold and Hollows which eventually became Thrum Hall from old Methodist Methodist Church

Yes I was part of that Youth Group and remember singing my heart out we sang through the whole of the 1933 Methodist Hymn Book
After it closed the remains of Mr Oliver Ormerod a popular Victorian Lancashire Dialect Poet had to be removed as they were buried under the chapel cornerstone. He was re intered in Rochdale Cemetery by the minister Rev John M Hibberts
Just reading through my diaries.
The final service at Lowerfold and Hollows Methodist Church took place on Sunday May 21st 1972. It was also at the end of a 42 hour sponsored sing by the young people who were divided into groups to sing for 30 minutes throughout. We had sleeping bags on the floor and stage.
When a chapel closes Kate, any records such as Sunday School registers and minutes are usually placed in the local authority archives for safe keeping. They might be stored under the chapel name, or the name of the circuit – the group of chapels that worked together.
