Penponds (Christian Bible 1844) Methodist Church.
TR14 0QE
Penponds, is a pretty little village on the outskirts of its industrial and bigger neighbour Camborne. At one end of the village close to the school and road to near neighbour Barripper, is Trevithicks Cottage, once the home to the high pressure steam and rail engine inventor, Richard Trevithick.
This little chapel stands almost butted up to one of two railway arches of the main line from Paddington to Penzance, which crosses to the north side of the village. The chapel is dwarfed by the embankment, but towers over two tiny fronted cottages, with tiny Windows (albeit now extended at the rear).
It is at present, unoccupied, and there is planning permission to convert to a dwelling, which will effect its interior and roof line. Visible through the magnificent front sash windows (18 panes in each) it is possible to see the back of the stairs and balcony. There is moulding pattern, which could have been ignored when built as it faces a wall…but no!…. love and care was taken even though hidden.
The main door is quite wide, suitable for two people or ladies with large skirts. It has delicate mouldings carved in and a lovely door handle.
I have included the grade listing description below which includes post code etc.
I have yet to do any research but thought this would be a start.
