Inscription reads:
In grateful remembrance of
James Thomas Thorne
Born September 1795
Died January 1872
For 56 years he was a devoted Minister of Christ, possessing good natural gifts, and in early life truly converted he became widely known for his unswerving integrity and consistency of life: his attachment to the principles of civil and religious liberty and indefatigable labours in every holy cause.
One of the first members of the Bible Christian denomination he continued to the end to be one of its firmest pillars and noblest ornaments: the Churches which he so largely helped to form and establish are the best tribute to his memory.
“Faithful unto death”
