Mary Lyle was an itinerant preacher in 1817 and 1818 serving in Truro circuit, retiring her appointment in Dec 1818.  Her brothers, William, George and Richard, were also amongst the early preachers.  Mary married Joseph Tucker on the 22 Feb 1819 in Morwenstow, Cornwall.  In 1831 or 1832, Joseph and Mary Tucker came to Upper Canada settling in Columbus, East Whitby, were they lived for the rest of their lives.

Mary continued to preach locally throughout her lifetime.  In her obituary it states that “for over fifty years she preached Christ”.  Reference is made to her preaching by her son Richard Lyle Tucker, a Bible Christian Minister, when referring to five open air or bush meetings, as reported in the Missionary Chronicle in December 1852,  “Our next was in the township of Scott, the 25th July. My honoured mother from Columbus was with us, and preached.  We hope that good was done. The third was held not far from Ebenezer Chapel. Brother N. Rodd and my mother were with us, and preached.”

Mary Lyle Tucker died on the 13th of July 1885 and was buried in the Columbus Cemetery.  No headstone currently marks her burial however the headstone for Joseph Tucker has been preserved.
