Lostwithiel Bank United Methodist Free Church

The former Lostwithiel United Methodist Free Church is a grade II Listed Building. You can see a description and see a picture here.

The chapel and adjacent Sunday school building dates from 1900. John Tilling tells us more about Methodism in Lostwithiel on the My Methodist History site here. He says:

Lostwithiel United Free Methodist Church was constructed on The Bank (renamed Albert Terrace in 1846 after the visit of Queen Victoria and Albert). This chapel was rebuilt in the late 1890’s and was reopened in 1900 becoming known locally as Bank Methodist Chapel. This chapel was closed in 1987 and converted into apartments 

Jo Lewis adds

Lostwithiel United Free Methodist chapel was constructed on The Bank  in 1835. The original  chapel was a plain building of stone, holding about 400 persons.

1888 maps show a United Methodist Church here in the location of the Sunday School; This suggests that the Sunday School was either an older chapel or the later re build occupied both sites.

The chapel was rebuilt in the late 1890’s and the reopening in 1900 is recorded in stone  on the Church building. After 1932 Union it became known locally as Bank Methodist Chapel.
