Trelowth United Methodist Free Church

The former Trelowth Methodist chapel on Trelowth Road dates from 1872 as Trelowth United Methodist Free Church.

It is built of squared granite rubble with granite dressings and a slate roof with crested ridge tiles and gable ends. There is a circular slate datestone with a brick border and the inscription: UMFC 1872.

Trelowth Chapel’s date stone says ‘UMFC 1872’.  The Chapel opened in November 1873. Adjoining to the rear of the chapel are 2 cottages from the same period, originally the Sunday school, as shown on 1933 OS maps.

An early meeting house is shown on this site on the 1840 Tithe Map. It is possible this became the Sunday school (as above), but this chapel is first identified on the 1880 OS plan as a United Methodist Chapel.  In 1907 it is shown as Free United Methodist Chapel and a new Sunday School is shown to the east on later maps.

The Chapel stopped being used in 2005 with a final service in December 2005.  It was sold in 2007. Planning was sought to convert this to a dwelling from 2012 and this was completed in 2015. It is now a luxury holiday cottage.
